Module Description:This module will give the student an understanding of sensors and their signal conditioning used in the measurement of heat , light and strain
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to
  1. Evaluate the correct data for sensors from data sheets
  2. Be competent to select sensors for the measurement of temperature, light and strain.
  3. Be competent to design or select signal conditioning circuits for sensors for light, temperature and strain
  4. Develop solutions to analytic problems in sensors and signal conditioning

Sensor Characteristics
Accuracy and errors, Hysteresis, Calibration, Drift, Linearity, Reliability, Reproducibility , Resolution , Sensitivity
Temperature sensors
RTD , Thermistor, Thermocouple and IC sensors and signal conditioning.
Light sensors
Photon theory of light, LDR , Photodiodes, Phototransistors, Opt couplers, Infra-red emitter /detector.
Strain measurement
Introduction to stress and strain, strain gauges with Wheatstone bridge with amplification.
