Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to
  1. Communicate, engage and build positive relationships with young people and other adults in a youth work setting that is mutually respectful and appropriate. Understanding the steps involved in dealing with challenging behaviours as required.
  2. Initiate, build and maintain positive relationships with young people on a one to one or group work basis in accordance to youth work values and principles.
  3. Intervene in a conscious and appropriate manner, monitor and assess the effectiveness of the intervention. Display the ability to record any learning from interventions in a reflective way.
  4. Articulate and practice the role of the youth worker, to include its scope, limitations, boundaries and expectations. Work effectively alongside other members of staff, voluntary or paid.
  5. Acknowledge and explore personal reactions and feelings to the unexpected, unfamilar and potentially stressful situations.
  6. To be fully aware and compliant around polices, procedures in the workplace, paying particular emphasis on Child Protection Guidelines.

Placement should enable student to meet their own identified learning needs. Also provides from the practical application of the National Occupational Standards, by the student, in a youth work environment.
Facilitate the social, personal and educational development of young people.
Promote equality and young peoples interest and welfare.

Develop youth work strategy and practice.
Lead and manage teams and individuals.
