Module Description:The aims of this module are: (1) introduce students to the practice of sound design for computer applications, (2) introduce students to the fundamental effects and processors that can be applied to sound in the DAW, and (3) introduce the music tools available in the DAW that can be utilized for the task of sound design.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to
  1. Utilise the fundamental effects and processors available in the DAW to improve the quality of recordings and shape sounds creatively.
  2. Utilise the music tools available in the DAW (e.g. MIDI).
  3. Spot where sound is needed in an application and conceive of what kind of sound might best suit and how this sound can be attained.
  4. Understand how to achieve a style and consistency between the sounds of a computer application as well as aurally reflect the visual design of this application.
  5. Produce stand-alone auditory icons for use in a computer application
  6. Critically analyse sound and how we engage with sound in a variety of contexts.
