Module Description:Students who have completed the Soil Mechanics module will have gained an under standing of the principles of soil mechanics, the engineering characteristics of soil and the application of soil mechanics theory to simple foundation design.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to
  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the nature, origins and engineering behaviour of soil and rock
  2. Conduct laboratory experiments to measure basic soil properties
  3. Use measured soil properties to evaluate the stability of simple soil structures
  4. Write technical reports on laboratory experiments
