Module Description:External placement allows students, an opportunity, to gain experience in a professional technical environment. The aims of this module are to: 1. Provide students with technical experience in a working environment. 2. Give them experience of structured employment in an industry relevant to their study. 3. To develop in the student an understanding of the organisation, procedures and practices current in their industry. 4. Introduce the students to potential employers. 5. Give students an opportunity to source industry based projects for their final year.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to
  1. Describe the organisation of the host company and his / her role within it.
  2. Complete, on time and to agreed specifications, a designated task.
  3. Present a comprehensive report on the company, including its products, management and structure in addition to the specific tasks performed by the student
  4. Describe the importance of safety in the workplace and describe the safety procedures in operation in the host enterprise.
  5. Describe the quality assurance requirements, controls and practice in the host enterprise.

Reassessment Requirement
Reattendance
The assessment of this module is inextricably linked to the delivery. Therefore reassessment on this module will require the student to reattend (i.e. retake) the module in its entirety.
Reassessment Description
There is no possibility of this module being recovered. However recognizing that external factors, outside the control of the learner might prevent a successful outcome, the Programme Board will admit into Year 3, as an Exceptional progress ( see DkIT Marks & Standards) any student who has not achieved a satisfactory outcome. They will be required to satisfactorily undertake a replacement placement prior to Graduation.
