Module Description:This module will provide an understanding of the specific challenges encountered in managing the operations function in tourism service organisations. It will create awarneness and understanding of the tools and techniques available to the tourism service operations manager in dealing with these challenges.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to
  1. Describe a number of service operations management techniques and their application to the tourism industry
  2. Understand the importance of effective tourism marketing
  3. Recognise the importance of Quality Assurance in the tourism industry
  4. Evaluate the role of various intermediaries impacting on the tourism sector.
  5. Recognise and assess the internal and external variables which influence the tourism operation.
  6. Apply the key principles of sustainability to tourism operations

Sustainability in Tourism
Sustainable Tourism, pillars of Sustainability, implementation of sustainable practices, sustainable tourism indicators.
The Tourism Environment
The Micro & Macro Tourism Environment, PESTE, Porters 5 Forces Model
Managing Tourist Attractions
Visitor Attraction Management, challenges facing visitor attractions, management responses to challenges in the industry.
