Module Description:This module aims to introduce students to basic measured surveying and levelling techniques that are commonly used within the construction industry.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to
  1. Read & Interpret surveying maps and plans.
  2. Plan and carry out basic linear measurement surveys and create accurate drawings including sketching
  3. Plan and carry out a basic levelling survey and process the collected data.
  4. Apply linear measurement and levelling techniques to set out the position and level of a basic building
  5. Plan and undertake surveys both independently and as a member of a team.

Introduction
Surveying Fundamentals. Units of Measurement. Understanding scale. Role of the Ordnance Survey (OSI)
Understanding Maps and Plans
Different types of maps and plans. Interpretation of Site Plans and Maps. Measurement of an area. Northings/Eastings. Level Datum
Introduction to Simple Measured Surveys
Principles of Linear Surveying. Equipment used. Linear Surveying techniques. Booking Procedures. Plotting of survey data
Introduction to levelling
Levelling Procedure. Staff reading. Booking procedures (Rise and Fall/ HPC method). Setting out building levels.

Reassessment Description
