Module Description:This module introduces the student to the mathematics required for the calculation of lengths, directions , areas and volumes
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to
  1. Define and apply the common functions of construction and surveying mathematics
  2. Calculate a wide varitey of areas and volumes
  3. Calculate trigonometry problems in construction and surveying
  4. Apply alegbraic formula in construction and surveying

Numeracy, measurement and arithmetic
Percentages, Units, Converting areas, Converting measurements, Decimal places, BOMDAS, Ratios, Approximation, Converting between scales, Weighted averages
Areas and Volumes Calculations
Regular areas and volumes, Irregular area, Simpson's Rule, Trapezoidal Rule
Trigonometry
Degrees-Minutes-Seconds, Right Angled Triangles (sine, cos, tan), Pythagoras's Theorem
Algebra
Transposition of formulas, Properties of negation, Solution of simple equations (two simultaneous equations); logarithms (plotting points on a graph)
