Module Description:In this module students will complete a dissertation and present and defend it at a viva.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to
  1. Develop advanced research skills
  2. Appraise and prepare a dissertation proposal including a comprehensive literature review and establishing a dissertation structure.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to investigate, analyse, synthesise and evaluate information on a selected topic.
  4. Present and defend their research findings at an interview panel.
 

Module Content & Assessment

Indicative Content
Research Skills
Purpose of research; establishing knowledge; ethics; literature review; data collection (including qualitative and quantitative, laboratory, questionnaires and interviews, case studies); data analysis, manipulation and observation (statistical); plagiarism etc.
Research Plan
Rationale and outline of literature; draft aim; proposed work plan (outlining key target dates); references & bibliography. (Approx. word count 1,000 words).
Dissertation Proposal including Literature Review
The research plan is developed into a full proposal including: a comprehensive literature review; finalised aim and objectives; methodology; plan of work; and references & bibliography. (Approx. word count 3-3,500 words).
Dissertation and Presentation of results
Application of literature review to design of applied research; case study/applied research analysis and evaluation; References and bibliography. (Approx. word count 3-3,500 words).

Reassessment Description
