Module Description:The aim of this module is to develop the student's ability , as part of an interdisciplinary team, to apply their knowledge, understanding and skills in an applied way on a case study project.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to
  1. Prepare the appropriate relevant disciplinary documentation at the feasibility, outline design and detail design stages of a case study project.
  2. Evaluate the relevant disciplinary factors for consideration at the feasibility, outline design and detail design stages of a case study project.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to work as part of interdisciplinary team in preparing a solution as applied to a case study building.
  4. Verbally and visually present findings in a concise and professional manner.
 

Module Content & Assessment

Indicative Content
Building Surveying
Development Potential Report including a building evaluation incorporating site, building and location issues. Feasibility Report including: Client and user requirements and formulation of briefs; property status analysis; refurbishment alternatives and evaluation. Outline and Detail Design: Partial FSC/DAC, planning drawings.
Architectural Technology
Development Potential Concepts, Client and user requirements and formulation of briefs; property status analysis; refurbishment alternatives and evaluation, Feasibility drawings, General arrangement and working drawings, Planning documentation, Partial DAC, Partial FSC, construction detailing drawings and specification
Construction Management
Report on existing fabric/structure/services/site issues including traffic management Risk/site assessment Buildability issues Cost Planning Programme schedule/planning including Gantt charts and network diagrams Health & Safety Plan.

Reattendance
The assessment of this module is inextricably linked to the delivery. Therefore reassessment on this module will require the student to reattend (i.e. retake) the module in its entirety.
Reassessment Description
Students will be given an opportunity to remediate part or all of their CA performance by the autumn/repeat examination boards by repeating part or all of the same or similar CA.
