Module Description:This module aims to give students an understanding of advanced surveying and setting out techniques used in the construction industry.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to
  1. Operate advanced surveying instruments.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of the various surveying techniques relating to advanced surveying equipment.
  3. Set out construction works

Indicative Content
Surveying Technologies
Principles and use of Total Stations, GPS, GIS, 3D Laser Scanning, use of drones, introduction to LIDAR, etc
Setting Out Construction Works
Principles and techniques.
Traverse Surveys
Types of traverse, basic principles of traversing, fieldwork, traversing calculations, rectangular co-ordinates, traverse co-ordinate calculation, plotting rectangular co-ordinates, calculation of a closed traverse, co-ordinate problems.
Survey Data Processing
Data analysis and use.

Reassessment of this module will be offered solely on the basis of coursework and a repeat examination will not be offered.
Reassessment Description
The lecturer will inform students at the beginning of the module which elements of CA are recoverable and which are non-recoverable.Students will be given an opportunity to remediate part or all of their CA performance by the autumn/repeat examination boards by repeating part or all of the same or similar CA.
