Module Description:This module introduces the student to the basic functions of AutoCAD to produce construction related drawings and details.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to
  1. Explain and identify the AutoCad interface and its relationship with the operating system.
  2. Identify the range of AutoCAD drawing tools and their application to construction drawings.
  3. Recognise and use basic AutoCad editing tools.
  4. Use text, dimensions and hatch in AutoCAD drawings.
  5. Be able to design various Blocks and demonstrate understanding of blocks and drawings
  6. Draw and manage drawings in AutoCAD and produce standard practice drawings in paper format
 

Module Content & Assessment

Indicative Content
Introduction
The AutoCAD interface and ribbons, User preferences. Drawing commands using keyboard shortcuts, grips, object selection settings and filters, editing object properties.
Setting up a drawing
Limits, Global Co-Ordinates System, Layers, Units, creating templates and sheets, snap system etc.
Drawing Basic Objects
Basic Drawing Commands, lines, circles, arcs etc., Using the modify commands to draw
Introduction to dimensioning
Creating dimensions - How to set up & Edit dimensions both for Model space and Paper Space Printing - Annotative Dimensions
Introduction to Text
How to create and Edit different text styles & Applications - Annotative text styles - Set up for both model and paper space.
Blocks
Creating and modifying normal blocks and dynamic blocks
Introduction to Hatching
Hatching, Creating Boundaries, hatch fills, gradient hatching
External Referencing of Data
Raster Images, PDF underlays and External Referenced drawings
Basic Printing and Plotting
Basic printing and plotting. Drawings set up and management. Set up plot styles with both ctb files and layers. Pen Assignments standards and applications. Include both paper space and model space printing options.
