Full Title:BIM 1
Language of Instruction:English
Module Code:ENGR E7032
Credits: 5
Valid From:Semester 1 - 2019/20 ( June 2019 )
Module Delivered in 4 programme(s)
Module Description:Building Information Modelling uses the process of designing a building collaboratively using one coherent system of computer models rather as separate sets of drawings. It currently can bring together all the different disciplines within a project to work on one "active" model that greatly enhances efficiency and accuracy and presentation. The student shall be able to understand BIM techniques and operate the software in an efficient and effective manner.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to
  1. Identify the main concepts of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Apply these concepts in producing a building model.
  2. Operate BIM Software and show competence in using it to produce Building Design Models and Visualisations.
  3. Prepare all the relevant information within the BIM software efficiently to produce professional and accurate building design and planning drawings and visualisations.

Module Content & Assessment

Indicative Content
Introduction to BIM
An overview of the concepts of Building Information Modelling. How Revit Architecture works in practice.
Producing Building Models
Add basic building elements, such as floors, walls, doors & windows and roofs.to a model. Add more detailed elements, such as stairs, curtain walling, furniture to a model. Add basic topographical surfaces and site elements to a model. Refine the building elements. Basic family Management
Producing Building Design Drawings and Visualisations
Create views, and sheets to document a building model. Prepare presentation views such as 3D renderings. Drawings shall be produced to both design and planning standard.
