Module Description:The learner will undertake industrial work placement lasting one semester. The aim of the placement is to introduce the learner to structured employment in a relevant work sector and to develop in the learner an understanding of the organisation, its procedures and technology. The placement will provide students with the opportunity to observe the practical application of theoretical knowledge gained in their programme of study. Should learners have difficulty being placed, they will complete a work related project which equates to the student effort and learning outcomes of the module.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module the learner should be able to
  1. Work productively and in a professional manner, including in the areas of communications, punctuality, planning, accountability, ethics etc.
  2. Apply and develop knowledge and skills acquired from their programme of study.
  3. Participate fully as a member of a team when undertaking work tasks.
  4. Demonstrate an understanding of a host organisation’s structures, policies and procedures.
  5. Reflect on and evaluate the learning gained from the work placement.

Work Experience
While it is evident that the work placement experiences will differ from student to student, it is expected that each placement will: provide an opportunity to observe the practical application of theoretical knowledge and skills; inform students on the practices and operations of a company; inform students on the legal and regulatory framework that they must operate within and help students to develop a keen commercial awareness and appreciation of client requirements.

Reassessment Requirement
Reattendance
The assessment of this module is inextricably linked to the delivery. Therefore reassessment on this module will require the student to reattend (i.e. retake) the module in its entirety.
Reassessment Description
Students must pass the assessment element relating to the 'Logbook' in order to pass the module. Failure in this area will mean that students must retake the module in its entirety. In certain circumstances, where appropriate, students will be given the opportunity to resubmit the reflective journal and/or re-sit the presentation at the next examination session, without the need to re-sit the module.
