On successful completion of this programme the learner should be able to :

PLO1 Specialised knowledge across a variety of areas
PLO2 Demonstrate a specialised knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of community development and youth work.
PLO3 Recognition of limitations of current knowledge and familiarity with sources of new knowledge; integration of concepts across a variety of areas
PLO4 Evaluate the concepts and theories that underpin community development and youth work. Demonstrate an ability to explore the concepts and theories that underpin youth work and to integrate concepts across, community studies, leadership and youth studies.
PLO5 Demonstrate specialised technical, creative or conceptual skills and tools across an area of study
PLO6 Identify opportunities that can contribute to the economic, social, cultural progress, and quality of life of community groups by means of practical interaction. Understand the facilitation process of youth work and community development, and critically analyse the effectiveness of current development programmes. Explore the concept of “Development” particularly from a global perspective. Enhance communication and pedagogy techniques to deliver programmes effectively. Employ a range of skills in youth work and through their development as reflective practitioners use and modify advanced skills and tools as appropriate to different contexts and situations to establish best practice.

PLO8 Work with confidence in a community setting using resilient and intellectual capabilities, exercising appropriate judgement to select and justify appropriate actions that will support community development programmes. Plan and implement youth work activities that enables and empowers young people. Work with confidence with young people.
PLO9 Utilise diagnostic and creative skills in a range of functions in a wide variety of contexts
PLO10 Demonstrate an ability to apply diagnostic and creative skills so as to recommend and implement programmes in community development and group work in a youth work settings. Use leadership and facilitation skills to plan and implement effective youth work and sports development programmes in a community setting. Undertake independent and interdisciplinary research using quantitative and qualitative techniques as appropriate. Reach conclusions from this research. Make recommendations and undertake a programme of youth work action to implement positive change.

PLO12 Demonstrate the capacity to interact and communicate effectively with colleagues and groups. Apply the information technology, teamwork and interpersonal skills that are required to work in a community setting. Take responsibility for the establishment of goals and the implementation, supervision and evaluation of training and coaching programmes at the individual and group level. Manage youth activities in a centre or detached youth work contexts. Lead support, develop and provide professional supervision to youth workers and/or volunteers. Demonstrate the capacity to interact and communicate effectively with colleagues. Use teamwork, interpersonal and analytical skills as required in a multi-disciplinary team.
