Module Indicative Content
Intercultural Competence
5 ECTS for preparatory workshop, reflective e-portfolio and final interview. Students must attend and successfully complete the preparatory workshop in order to be permitted to study abroad. The workshop element will account for 50 per cent of the 5 ECTS.
Reflective e-portfolio
The aim of the reflective e-portfolio is to encourage students to fully integrate into the cultural and general community of the host country through applied research, and to evaluate their cultural and learning experience through a record of reflective practice. The e-portfolio should reflect an engagement with the host country in a practical way that could not be addressed by desk research alone, and should reflect the normal standard of research expected by Business Studies & Humanities students and should conform to guidelines on presentation and plagiarism. The e-portfolio should consist of regular (monthly) reports that can be accessed through moodle or email, allowing the supervisor and student to keep in regular contact. These moodle entries would form the basis for a reflective piece of writing or web product that should be completed after the student’s return to Ireland. The reflective e-portfolio and final interview will account for 50 per cent of the 5 ECTS. An allocation of one timetabled hour per week will be made for every 3 students supervised.
Studies Abroad Modules
25 ECTS for modules studied through English. In discussion with their supervisors at DKIT and the host institution, students will select at least 4 modules in a compatible or comparable area of study which will support the learning outcomes of the overall programme.
Language Studies
Business Studies & Humanities students who study a foreign language at DKIT will continue their studies through the language while abroad. The assessment of the semester is divided into three elements: 10 ECTS from studies in the host institution (e.g. IUT in France for French); 10 ECTS for a language log to be submitted at regular intervals to a language lecturer in DkIT; and 10 ECTS for a research project to be submitted and orally defended at the end of the academic year.
