Module Description: This module will provide the student with a foundational understanding of health promotion prior to, during and after pregnancy. The module will enable the student to appraise optimal health, its promotion and relevance to midwifery practice before, during and after pregnancy. Delivery and application of modular content may be facilitated through Enquiry Based Learning (EBL).

MLO2 Appraise socio-economic, political, ethnical/racial, cultural, gender and environmental factors affecting health prior to, during and after pregnancy
MLO3 Critically evaluate strategies for promoting and optimising maternal, child and community health with reference to current health strategies and in response to specific health concerns
MLO4 Critically discuss fertility awareness, fertility regulation, and pre-pregnancy care
MLO5 Demonstrate the role of the midwife in health promotion referencing the core values of care, compassion and commitment
MLO6 Critically consider the global perspective on maternal and child health
