Module Description: The financial consequences of marketing decisions must be considered. Financial information is essential in planning, decision making and control. This module examines the financial information supporting each of these areas.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

MLO1 Identify cost accumulation processes for pricing and stock valuation, including Lifecycle and Target Costing.
MLO2 Distinguishing between relevant and irrelevant costs / revenues for decision making purposes.
MLO3 Analyse the budgetary process including behavioural issues in the design and operation of budgeting, planning and control systems
MLO4 Use Cost Volume Profit analysis to calculate profitability / Breakeven / Margin of Safety within an enterprise using single product variability
MLO5 Use investment appraisal techniques to assess investment opportunities including ARR, NPV & IRR

Strategic planning versus operational planning, human aspects of budgeting, benefits and issues, Cash Forecast, Projected Income Statement and Projected Statement of Financial Position.
Cost-Volume-Profit Analysis
Break-even point, contribution/Sales Ratio, margin of safety, assumptions.
Cost accumulation & behaviour
Cost accumulation for labour, material and overheads. Implications for pricing & decision-making using Marginal & Absorption costing
Relevant Costing
Distinguishing between relevant & irrelevant costs for decision making purposes
Investment appraisal techniques
Payback, ARR, NPV, IRR - Techniques, strengths and weaknesses.
