Module Description: This course will provide students with the knowledge and skills to plan, implement and troubleshoot a Directory Service for a small- to medium-sized company.
 
Module Learning Outcome
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

MLO1 Discuss the role of a Directory Service in an organisation.
MLO2 Describe the LDAP protocol and identify mandatory attributes for objects in a Directory Service.
MLO3 Create Logical Diagrams for a Directory Structure.
MLO4 Implement an Active Directory Domain including Organisational Units, users, computers, groups and Group Policy.
MLO5 Create a TCP/IP network, connect clients and test and troubleshoot Directory Service problems.
MLO6 Compare and contrast Active Directory with an Open Source LDAP directory.

Introduction to the role of Directory Services
Introduction to Directory Services and the LDAP protocol. Examining how Directory Services operate looking at Objects, Attributes, Roles and Administrative Tasks.
Planning a Directory Service structure
Planning a Directory Service structure using Active Directory. This includes the design of an Organisational Unit, User, Computer and Group Strategy. Produce diagrams for each design.
Installation and configuration of a Directory Service
Installation and configuration of Active Directory. Implementation of AD Design.
Testing and Troubleshooting
Create a network; connecting clients; troubleshooting and testing AD Design.
Installation and configuration of an Open Source Directory Service.
Implementing the Design in an Open Source platform.
