Module Description: The aim of this module is to provide students with the conceptual tools to critically evaluate citizenship within the context of global migration. The module focuses in particular on Irish responses to increasing ethnic and cultural diversity.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

MLO1 Analyse the historical development and spread of citizenship, the rules governing entitlement to citizenship and how its content varies over time and space
MLO2 Evaluate how international migration is impacting on contemporary citizenship regimes
MLO3 Critically evaluate citizenship theories and Irish citizenship within the context of migration and
MLO4 Evaluate the implications of ethnic diversity to Irish citizenship and ethnonational identity
MLO5 Analyse and explain the distinction between nationality as legal citizenship and nationality as ethno-cultural identity
