Module Description: This course introduces the archaeology of a period that is often forgotten in relation to the perception of archaeology – that of the more recent past 1500AD. The first part of the course will deal with the physical traces associated with the Plantations, the emergence of new towns and the various technological advances and changes in material culture over the period. The landscape changes of the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries will also be explored. The second part of the module will look at the emergence of the discipline of industrial archaeology.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

MLO2 Discuss the reasons for the character of particular monuments/features at given times during the period.
MLO3 Appraise the economic link between these developments and the development of the landscape.
MLO4 Assess the impact of industrialisation on Ireland over the course of the post medieval period.
MLO5 Compare and contrast developments in Ireland with those elsewhere, especially Britain.
