Module Description: The aim of this module is to provide an understanding of economics. It starts with resource allocation and an examination of the market mechanism from a price and quantity perspective. Further issues covered are market imperfections and the need for government intervention, market structures, measuring the macro economy and policy options available to governments.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

MLO2 Critically evalute the characteristics of Demand and Supply and evaluate market behavior and outcomes
MLO3 Examine the agents role in decision making in the area of pricing and cost management
MLO4 Explore the theoretical basis of government intervention under a market framework and analyse how intervention takes place
MLO5 Analyse the macro economy and how activity is measured through circular flow and national income accounts
MLO6 Critically examine the objectives of macroeconomic policy and evaluate current macroeconomic policies
MLO7 Analyse the current policy debate and the role of New Deal Politics in economy management versus Neo-Liberalism

Individual assessments during the course will examine the students knowledge of economic theory and specific analytical skills. Usually this will consist of two seen CA exams. The first usually explores aspects of market structures and elasticity while the second usually explores aspects of macroeconomic policy framework.
