Module Description: This module will provide students with knowledge of the principles of Business Law based on case law and legislation and will enable students to apply these principles of law in a business context.
 
Module Learning Outcome
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

MLO1 Discuss the principles of contract law and their application to business and enterprise.
MLO2 Explain occupiers liability legislation and the tort of negligence and their application to the business environment and management of events.
MLO3 Compare and contrast the different forms of business organisation and the regulation of business through relevant legislation.
MLO4 Explain European and national consumer protection regulation and the rights of the consumer.

Employment Law
The contract of employment: the rights and duties of the employer and employee.
The Development of Consumer Protection Policy and Regulation
Sale of Goods and Supply of Services, Consumer Credit, Defective Products and Consumer Protection legislation. Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.
Introduction to Business Organisations
Distinction between sole trader, partnership and company. Overview of incorporation of a business. Company law compliance in Ireland.
Data Protection Law
The scope and relevance of data protection law to businesses and consumers.
Occupiers Liablity & Negligence
Occupiers Liability. Negligence as it relates to business and relevant case law.
