Module Description: To develop communicative and intercultural competences, enabling the student to deal with a range of basic situations in daily life through German.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

MLO3 Produce a short, simple piece of writing in German using basic grammatical structures.

MLO5 Identify characteristics of contemporary German-speaking societies.
MLO6 Outline the characteristics of his/her own language learning style.

Grammatical Structures
The alphabet; present tense verbs; the verbs sein and haben; personal pronouns; singular and plural of nouns; questions with wie, wo, wohin, woher and was; prepositions in and aus; nominative case of definite and indefinite articles; cardinal numbers.
Communicative Competencies
Talking about yourself; hobbies; describing where you live; weather; dates, times, numbers.
Intercultural Competencies
Introduction to the geography of German-speaking countries.
