Module Description: To equip the learner to produce more complex written and oral German in order to engage with topics of current relevance in the German-speaking world.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

MLO2 Answer questions on authentic aural material related to current affairs and film in German-speaking countries.
MLO3 Respond, in written form, to material related to current affairs and film in German-speaking countries.
MLO4 Respond appropriately to specialised texts relating to current affairs in German-speaking countries.
MLO5 Compare and contrast aspects of German, Austrian and Irish political life.
MLO6 Reflect on his/her own grammatical weaknesses and use appropriate strategies to address them.

Grammatical Structures
Relative clauses with weil; comparatives and superlatives; possessive articles in the dative case; adjectives in the dative case; relative clauses with dass; the genitive –s; reflexive pronouns; adverbs of time; verbs with prepositions; indirect questions with ob; adjectives without an article in the nominative and accusative.
Communicative Competencies
Analysis of current affairs (using media sources from the German-speaking world); study of a German film.
Intercultural Competencies
Socio-political comparative analysis of German-speaking countries and Ireland.
