On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

MLO1 Discuss historical events and critique films and literature from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
MLO2 Perform comprehension tasks based on advanced material of a specialised nature related to the history, film and literature of Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
MLO3 Compare, contrast and critically comment, in written German, on aspects of German, Austrian, Swiss and Irish history, film and literature.
MLO4 Respond appropriately to advanced texts of a specialised nature relating to the history, cinema and literature of German-speaking countries.
MLO5 Compare, contrast and critically comment on aspects of German, Austrian, Swiss and Irish society.
MLO6 Evaluate the usefulness of various language learning and communication strategies.

Revision & consolidation of German grammatical structures.
Communicative Competencies
Analysis of German and Austrian films and series; analysis of German-language works of literature; analysis of historical events in German-speaking countries using authentic aural and written sources.
Intercultural Competencies
Contemporary German-language cinema; contemporary German-language literature; contemporary German and Austrian history.
