Valid From:: Semester 1 - 2019/20 ( June 2019 )
Language of Instruction:English
Duration: 1 Semester
Credits:: 10
Module Owner:: Myles Hackett
Departments: Nursing Midwifery & Early Years
Module Description: The aim of this module is to equip learners with the knowledge and skills to interpret and synthesise existing research to inform and improve practice. In addition, learners will develop the skills necessary to identify high quality research questions and develop effective and appropriate proposals to address these.

Module Learning Outcome
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
# Module Learning Outcome Description
MLO1 Demonstrate ability to critically search, select and review relevant literature and other information sources.
MLO2 Demonstrate a practical understanding of the stages in the lifecycle of a research project, including concept, proposal, research design, ethical approval, implementation, analysis and publication of results.
MLO3 Articulate an appropriate and realistic inquiry question/hypothesis and relate to relevant key debates in the literature.
MLO4 Present and justify a research methodology, philosophical position and data collection techniques appropriate for their proposed research question/hypothesis.
MLO5 Design a study that demonstrates integrity and critically engages with debates on how research quality and truth claims apply to their particular inquiry question.
MLO6 Evaluate the procedure of using research to inform evidence-based practice.
Pre-requisite learning
Module Recommendations
This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is strongly recommended before enrolment in this module. You may enrol in this module if you have not acquired the recommended learning but you will have considerable difficulty in passing (i.e. achieving the learning outcomes of) the module. While the prior learning is expressed as named DkIT module(s) it also allows for learning (in another module or modules) which is equivalent to the learning specified in the named module(s).
