Literature Review
Understand the relationship between research and practice; Source, analyse and synthesise contemporary research related to practice area.

Research Question
Reviewing evidence-based national and international literature; progressing ideas in a logical and structured manner; focussing on a particular area of practice and composing a research question using an appropriate paradigmatic framework; stipulating precise aims and objectives of the proposed study.

Approach and Design
The relationship between research question and design; choosing and justifying a research design suitable to address the research question; strengths and weaknesses of qualitative designs - ethnography, phenomenology, qualitative descriptive; quantitative designs - experiments, quasi experiments, descriptive designs; principles of action research.

Sampling
Justifying the sampling process; accessing a sample; types of samples; sampling designs; sample size.

Data Collection
Choosing and justifying an appropriate data collection method that addresses the research question.

Analysis
Choosing and justifying a data analysis process

Ethics
Upholding ethical principles in research throughout the research process; informed consent; autonomy; beneficence; justice; confidentiality; use of ethical framewroks; ethical approval proceeses.

Finance and Planning
Costing and planning the research project; proposing a realistic time frame to conduct the study; reporting, communicating and implementing research.
