Module Description: |
This module will develop students’ knowledge and understanding on the origins and necessity for the regulation of food supply. Students will review the role of public health law on broad public health policy within the sector. Students will develop an understanding of the origins of the present EU, what it currently does and the differences that exist between national and European law in this area. Students taking this module will after successful completion be able to demonstrate a basic knowledge of the role of food policy and law and public health policy and law, including knowledge of selected major cases of European food law. Students will be familiar with the legislation and current considerations surrounding food additives, food and nutrition labelling and have a basic understanding of the factors influencing legislation surrounding fortification, supplements, genetic modification and other emerging issues.
