Theoretical frameworks and paradigms in social research. Sources of research ideas. Quantitative Research: scientific perspective and method, survey, hypothesis formulation and testing. Qualitative Research traditions: Phenomenology, Grounded theory, Ethnography, Case Study, Action research. Moving from ideas to a research question: Feasibility; Scope; Sustainability; Evidence based practice. Principles of research design; Key concepts in research ethics

Ethical considerations. Research ethics boards. Ethical dilemmas in IT systems. Ethical codes. Research with vulnerable groups

Drawing up of an academic research proposal. Consisting of the following sections:
