Module Description: This programme will allow midwives to develop their knowledge and skills in the recognition, assessment, care, and evaluation of acutely ill women in maternity services.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

MLO1 Critically discuss the knowledge, skills and professional behaviours required to assess and effectively care for acutely ill women in maternity services
MLO2 Consider the structure and function of altered anatomical and physiological organ systems in pregnancy/postnatal period
MLO3 Develop an enhanced understanding of pregnancy/postnatal conditions that contribute to maternal morbidity and mortality
MLO4 Utilise new knowledge to enhance advanced assessment and care of women presenting with altered health states in pregnancy/postnatal period
MLO5 Demonstrate clinical competence and critical thinking for level 2 midwifery care in pregnancy/postnatal period
MLO6 Discuss strategies for enhancing interdisciplinary collaboration and communication.
MLO7 Interpret and implement new and existing midwifery knowledge through evidence based practices.
