Module Description: This module focuses on delivering a variety of information technology tools required in today's office environment. This module aims to give learners a basic understanding of the personal computer and an indepth grounding in the use of popular business software tools (spreadsheets, word processing and presentation) to assist in communication of data and solving business problems.
 
Module Learning Outcome
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

MLO1 Explain the basic components and operations of computers, explore the components of an operating system to perform, structure and organsie tasks
MLO2 Design spreadsheets to analyse numerical data using calculations, formula, functions and charts.
MLO3 Design and create professional documents (professional letters, memo's, multipage documents such as reports)
MLO4 Create an interactive electronic slideshow that incorporates features such as pictures, tables and animation that may be used to support a professional presentation
MLO5 Integrate word processing, speadsheets and graphic components to compile and complete a project or report documentation

Computer Basic
Hardware, Software, Operating Systems, File Management
Network Environment
Storage Media - organisation of Local Area Network - folder structures and organising data - file naming conventions - copying and moving files - shared folders and remote storage - security and access rights.
Word Processing
Editing, formatting, proofing and printing business documents to include merging word documents. Creating multi-page documents to include table of contents, indexes, footnotes and endnotes, citations, managing sources and creating a bibliography. Working with themes and building blocks.
Spreadsheets
Understanding spreadsheet software. Working with formulas and functions. Formatting worksheets. Analysing data using formulas. Working with charts. Managing data using tables.
Graphics Presentation
Plan, create and format a presentation. Insert objects to include pictures, tables and charts. Create, modify and work with advanced tools and masters. Use slide show commands, transitions and animations to facilitate the smooth delivery of a professional business presentation.
Integration
Merge word documents, speadsheets and presentation style graphics to create and complete projects
