Module Description: Students will learn the fundamentals of web design and development using WordPress or equivalent. Where appropriate, they will also access a Page Builder like Elementor. After learning how to test and upload a website along with design theory, the student will be asked to develop a web site project, usually based on the requirements of a local firm.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

MLO2 Demonstrate proficiency using WordPress and where appropriate, using a Web Page Builder (lab-based).
MLO3 Utilise an image editing software to prepare Images for Websites.
MLO4 Apply the principles of design and layout theory to web pages

Web Design Principles (theory)
Describe the Design Theory of the structure and layout of your web pages. Design issues to include – layout, colour, alignment, proximity, contrast, repetition and screen Vs print.
How the Web Works (theory)
IP Principles Domain Registration and Hosting Naming Conventions and Best Practices
Image Editing (Practical)
Preparing Images for the web
Create a Website using WordPress (or equivalent)
Build web site and apply WordPress features and utilities such as plug-ins, templates, themes and wedgets
Going Live with Your Website
Uploading Your Files to a Server, Testing Your Site
