Module Description: |
This module will develop students’ knowledge and understanding of the legal and regulatory framework within which social care managers operate. Students will be equipped to identify and apply the regulatory laws that they may encounter in various workplace settings within social care. This module will enable students to function as professional social care managers and to recognise and evaluate the responsibilities of social care managers. Students will also develop their knowledge of managing social care services within a human rights framework.

MLO1 |
Apply knowledge about the social care regulatory requirements to effectively participate as a manager within the sector. |
MLO2 |
Identify and evaluate the role and function of regulatory law within society and its impact upon key stakeholders impacting upon the social care environment. |
MLO3 |
Explain the legal relationship and role between social care and the relevant supervisory and enforcement bodies. |
MLO4 |
Identify and analyse regulatory risks that may impact upon the sector and guide appropriate responses within the parameters of applicable laws. |
MLO5 |
Interpret how specific legislation provides an appropriate response, imposing requirements to adhere to specified standards so as to ensure best practice and outcomes. |

Employment Law relevant to Social Care Managers. Statutory employment protection. Employment equality legislation. Role of the Workplace Commission. Protected Disclosures legislation.

Assisted Decision Making (Capacity) Act 2015. Adult Safeguarding policy and legislation. Public Sector Equality and Human Rights Duty. Relevant international human rights law. Office of Decision Support Services.
